Welcome to Maple Patchwork!!

06th January 2018
Well here it is! My new website - the old one was sweet but had a very different intention. Over the past few years patch-working has taken me on lots of really interesting journeys and I would love to share them with everyone who wishes to join in!

I was asked to teach a patchwork group about 14 months ago, and what started as a little group of women who had not met before but had similar interests, is now a thriving band of inspirational women (and sometimes men) who are all firm friends, supporting each other through good times and bad, house moves, illnesses and challenging patchwork blocks. They tell stories, learn skills and we laugh and sometimes cry together. Whilst teaching these wonderful souls I was encouraged to explore the history behind what we know as patch-working and quilting. I went back in time to when I first fell in love with the techniques and delved deeper - the stories I had heard, the designs I had studied - back in time to the earliest beginnings, uncovering bravery beyond imagination, ingenuity and resourcefulness and generosity of spirit.

Patchwork quilts play a part in cultural histories and tell the most amazing tales if we listen and pay attention...

Through workshops, enrichment programmes and talks I aim to share these beautiful, brave stories.

I am still stitching and the shop will soon be full of gifts and goodies too, and take a look at the possibilities for learning new skills too while you have fun and make friends!!

I'm often told I follow in my Mum's footsteps - well she started out as a domestic science teacher (as it was known back in the day) and I thought I would include her in my first post as she was and always will be one of the most hard working and inspirational women I have ever known and championed community and learning at every turn...
